Zooming In on the Space of Aesthetically Distinct ImagesWorking title: Zoomadic State AbstractMost of us have felt that distinct disappointment when, while browsing the Internet, clicking on a small image thumbnail brings up a high-resolution image that is nothing like what we hoped for. Suppose, however, if one could "bring up" the anticipated image instead, if a concrete form could be given to whatever it was that motivated the click in the first place, if that very desire (or anxiety) could be externalised as a digital, on-screen, high-resolution image — an image that would not disappoint. The following is a project proposal for the development of a software application that would allow for just such an interactive/creative zooming in on the space of aesthetically distinct images and the gradual homing in on the anticipated high-resolution image (as opposed to the image that was actually scaled down to generate the thumbnail). Also proposed is an accompanying exploration of the possible theoretical implications of the resulting practices and the visual output for the study of creativity and intentionality. See also: |
